Learning Tower: Safety and versatility
The Learning Tower provides safety and versatility not found in traditional step stools.
Here’s a picture of a traditional step stool:

And here’s a picture of the Learning Tower:

You can see right away that these are two totally different things. Of course, the small wooden step stool only costs $20 or so, and the tower is almost $200.
I’m sure you’ve seen other step stool designs, as well. Most that are designed for kids have only one or two steps, and they don’t get much higher than the one pictured. Some designed for adults get pretty high (higher than would be safe for kids).
The key thing that makes the Learning Tower safer for kids is the “railings” on all four sides.
In terms of “versatility,” what we’re talking about here is the fact that the tower does more than just let a kid get high enough to turn on the faucet and wash their hands. Unlike a simple step stool, the tower is something a kid can be in for 15, 30 or 60 minutes at a stretch (which is not impossible if they’re doing something that really catches their interest.
Here’s another thing. I bet you can remember using a regular step stool as a kid. Remember how it gets you higher, but just high enough to barely reach whatever it was you wanted to touch? Regular step stools simply don’t get kids high enough to let them feel like they’re really part of the action.
Go back or read about why the tower is good for kids 18mo and up.
